Simon Emsley

CANDIDATE FOR LEICHHARDT WARD

For more than 30 years, Simon Emsley has campaigned to improve public facilities and institutions in the Leichhardt area. As a community safety officer for Leichhardt Council from 2002-04, Simon identified housing insecurity as one of the great unaddressed risks to inner city public safety. As a Leichhardt councillor from 2012, he was instrumental in pushing council to improve housing equity and public amenity.

Simon’s campaign to establish a Refugee Welcome Centre in Callan Park generated statewide media interest. He currently manages Mates on the Move, a social enterprise pilot project providing recently released prisoners pathways to employment.
