About the Team
Mat Howard - Mat Howard was elected as your Councillor for Marrivkville-Midjuburi Ward in 2021. Prior to working in policy and government, Mat worked in theatre and arts-education. He is passionate about social justice and our local environment and has led several key projects since being elected, including FOGO, increasing employment for people with disability, converting town halls for use by artists and creative organisations, the development of the Anti-racism Strategy and the construction of inclusive playgrounds in every ward. He lives with his husband and children (and pet dog, Rocky) in Addison Road.
Leah Horsley - The daughter of politically engaged public servants in Canberra, a three-year-old Leah was wheeled to the lawns of Parliament House for the Whitlam dismissal in 1975.
After finishing school on the NSW Central Coast, Leah returned to Canberra to complete a Bachelor of Arts in Communications (Media) at Canberra University, specialising in
photojournalism. She’s since worked in advertising and design as a graphic designer, and more recently as content producer for a communications team in local government.
Leah joined the Labor Party in 2019 and volunteered on election campaigns of Jason Yat-Sen Li, Jo Haylen and Anthony Albanese. For the 2023 referendum, she led the Marrickville Yes Campaign volunteer squad. During this time Leah organised a walk from Marrickville to Prince Alfred Park for the campaign launch rally, a music event - Hell Yeah - at Petersham Bowling Club, and ran stalls at events including the Beer, Food and Footy Festival at Henson Park. She created animations for social media and designed posters and flyers to promote these events.
Leah is an active participant in the Inner West art and music community and has been endorsed as a candidate to run for the local government elections in September.
Christine Su - Born in Sydney, Christine Su has been a Marrickville resident since 2018, living in an apartment on Illawarra Road with her spouse Ro, an architect and their beloved Lewis the Cavoodle known as the “Inner West Doggy Mayor.” As the daughter of refugees from Vietnam and Taiwan, Christine understands the value of hard work and resilience. Her multicultural background shapes her deep appreciation for the diverse community of the Inner West and she is committed to welcoming and fostering an inclusive environment for all. Christine studied Classical Piano at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and earned a Master of Teaching from UNSW, receiving the Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award. She recently completed postgraduate studies in Religious Education from ACU. With over thirteen years of teaching experience, including currently teaching five years at an Inner West high school, Christine organises community events, including school music performances in public and collaborations with the council. A passionate activist, Christine volunteered for the ‘Yes’ campaign and advocates for safer LGBTQI+ communities. Her council run is driven by a commitment to equality, preserving live music, promoting educational opportunities and enhancing local amenities.
